I saw a clip yesterday of a women confronting Senator Rubio about civilian deaths in Gaza. And my first thought was, if Hamas had the balls to wear a Goddamn uniform, things would be different. But instead, the cowardly shits, not only don't wear uniforms they put bases of operations, at and in, hospitals, mosques and schools. Kick their ass, IDF.

If the editorial board you briefed was at the NYT, they still do not get it, judging by how far down this morning’s horror in Tel Aviv is in their news feed.

Your piece is like Dorian Gray. Not aged a day. The Palestinians — willfully — have learned nothing. In word and deed, they actively demonstrate that they possess none of the moral characteristics of civilized society.

Please be safe, Michael.

When you refer to moral sickness, is this the extremist Islamic tenets? If so, why not call it out?

Expand full comment

Yes, it should be called out. It is a very evil marriage of Islamic nationalism and European fascism. Palestinians have been indoctrinated with Islamofacist ideology and are shunned by other Arab nations because of it.

"Germans and Arabs shared many qualities and virtues, such as courage in war… heroism and manly character. They both shared in the suffering and injustices after the end of the First World War. Both great peoples had their honor insulted, their rights were denied and trampled underfoot.

Thus, the perfect marriage of victimization and martyrdom was consummated, and the union still flourishes today.

My cousin escaped death from a bomb in 1948 that killed every Israeli on a bus of hospital staff. But terrorism and carnage and hatred began before 1948. I am waiting for a real answer. Jews were emigrating to Palestine before WWI. The ancestors of some had never left for 1000's of years. Why the carnage ? The Jews did not have a state with an army prior to 1948, but the local Mufti wanted the Jews to be slaughtered. I ask why?

The Jews lived in the desert, the Palestinians in the hills. They lived separately and without hostilities prior to WWI More and more Jews emigrated to Palestine. Unbiased historians are not explaining how the extreme hostility developed after WWI.

I have read that there were long-standing skirmishes over grazing and farmland. When the Jews defeated Malaria, jobs opened up which encouraged Arab migration into the area. More land disputes ensued. Jews had been treated as inferiors by Muslims in the Middle-East, so there may have been carry over to Israel.

This reminds me again, we do not have a war strategy for terrorism. Even since Charles Wilkinson wrote about it in the 1970's, we have learned nothing. Equally an issue, our laws and rules of engagement have not kept up with the experience of terrorism. International law and the rule of law do not know how to address the casualties of terrorism or how to negotiate a ceasefire in a stateless conflict. I have no answers either - but hopefully some smart people will start grappling with these issues.

Most of the writings of Michael owen are very much to the point and of greatest significance to the current situation. He deserves some thanks for being so clear and direct.

Very well stated. As after the Iranian revolution, when the Islamists killed off their commie allies, The Islamists used the Nazi's and the current day progressives as useful tools for their religious extremist hatred.

Excellent article, one thing occurred to me when you said that you are willing to talk to the palestinians, the past tense would be more appropriate going forward until they are proven non-bestial Savage barbarians with a desire to eat hearts and gouge eyes unlike very few other populations throughout history

No matter how you attempt to defend the indefensible, you cannot justify over 100 years of oppression and slaughter of Palestinian men, women, and children.

The latest Israeli/Zionist genocidal massacre proves this. History will find you guilty but I fear that it will be too late.

. There has never been a country or state of Palestine. Palestine was a region. The British who ruled the area last wanted to create 2 states; one Jewish and one Muslim. Jordan, the Arab state was created and then Israel was created by the UN. The UN was going to give a second state to the local Arabs in Israel, but they chose war instead. Since then, the Palestinians have rejected statehood offers 5 times that we know about. If you choose war, you get war. Losing the war start isn't genocide, it just hurts.

The actual history of British Palestine always glosses over the terrorism. The facts about religion based anger and hatred swirling around the holy sites needs to come out like lancing a pustule. The "propaganda talk" is a disease like a cancer in American society - one of course of many sicknesses in the U.S., but on this Substack I am asking the writer and the readers to do the historical research and help get it "OUT THERE" History should silence the rhetoric
