Even more remarkable than an entire society achieving Cincinnatus status is the fact that it did so on its own without the instructions or even guidance of the state. While the people of Israel acted instantly and efficiently on October 7th and afterward, the state simply failed to function.
As a former Ambassador and Knesset member, I have never heard you be so critical of the Netanyahu government. Thank you for the courage to express your convictions.
The image of him standing to sing and speak prayers while armed to fight says it all. Our first line of defense and offense is adoration and prayer, yet we also must be willing to courageously address the reality of our temporal existence.
Wow! It's so hard to explain to people our reality. How we are all together in this, suffering daily! And yet we cannot rely on our elected government to serve us. Sadly on the contrary.... with their words and deeds they just damn us in world opinion and since the beginning of 2023 have done their best to ruin the economy.
Please be assured that among rational non-Jews, Bibi Netanyahu is held in high regard throughout the world. Like Churchill, Netanyahu has his flaws, but he is the right man for the desperate job that needs to be done. And like Churchill, Netanyahu will likely be voted out by an ungrateful nation that does not know how to admit that their earlier tantrums and their belief in appeasement were terrible mistakes.
Thank you. Clarity is much needed at these times of high emotion. Emotions can cloud our judgement, and often make people say and do things they regret later.
World Jewery must attempt to stand together. Governments and their leaders come and go. We need to look within our combined souls to find the strength and commonality of purpose to fight the evils of hatred. This is on us, our voices and our wills.
Bravo! is the fitting Italian tribute to brilliance here. This article was stellar and I envisioned the mid-20th Century chalutniks carrying Uzis while plowing fields aboard their Alliis-Chalmers tractors. I saw this first as a tribute to Zionism and then a subliminal knock against the non-BIBI government and leftist media that, as in America, seeks to undermine all that is venerable, and in doing so augments nothing but risk and loss. In this moving memoir of the (one of few actually) great Romans, Cincinnatus, let us then not forget the original “dual-taskers”, the Wallbuilders of Nehemiah 4.11: those who “kept one hand on the work and the other holding a weapon”. Mazel Tov!
Thank you. I have been listening to you and reading your articles since you spoke with Bari Weiss. I understand so many things more clearly because of you.

Heartbreaking and very moving to read this Michael.
Praying that the people of Israel have the strength to finish this war, swiftly and with the fewest losses possible .
Sadly, western governments are failing their people everywhere. Only the people can change this. There is much at stake. Pray.

Well written. Well said. thank you.
So right!
This is all deeply impressive on many levels.
Notable that Netanyahu’s son is cooling his heels in Miami.
