If Israel has learned one thing in this two year war, it’s that the Jewish State cannot depend on support from the U.S. New Democrat party should it return to power. Israel cannot be a true sovereign country if it needs to rely on America for weaponry or permission on how and when to fight.
I was interested in the Arava and Negev, so planned with a tour guide to visit in '22. And a visit to his green, lush kibbutz which was wasteland in photos from the forties. So yes, extend Israel 's population to the Negev. And how about the green and lush Galilee where Arabs out number Jews in the Jewish state? Why is a town like Bet Shean so neglected and tired looking...rather than a dynamic town to attract new residents? Israel going forward has so many enemies who came out of the closet Oct. 7th and8th. Now the newly elected mayor of NYC included.
Being able to create and defend physical and moral space that keeps internal and external enemies at bay so that Israel can elevate its democratic values atop a rock solid humanistic foundation is a wicked problem. It will take time. I believe the Israelis can manage this complex challenge. It is imperative that they succeed. Israel must tune out the noise screamed by the multitudes of people who dare not look in the mirror as they hurl lies of genocide and apartheid. These morally bankrupt cowards collude with terror and believe they own the moral high ground. They do not. Hamas and it’s dedicated terrorists celebrated when they murdered woman and children. The celebration of rape and torture is the face of genocide.
So what is the plan? I think I echo the desire of the other commenters to know exactly how to accomplish what you so passionately set forth in this brief essay. I, for one, really want to know.
National Sovereignty is not the same as "sovereignty" over sectors of the nation. Independent sovereign choices by the leadership for the state's defense is not an equivalent over educatonial choices and cultural influence. This is a democracy.
One other reason to get more independent of the US is that America, while it has a major ability to walk and chew gum at the same time, is increasingly being upset by massive problems internally. The political polarization and rise of extremes on both sides and the economic polarization of the American people. All this unrest is not good for Jews in America and not good for the Jewish state. Oh, and the books are a mess! Drowning in debt. Costs rising. That leads to bad Weimar type things. America seems to have such difficulty even solving the smallest things for its populace. Look at those crazy Pacific Palisades wildfires. Or the financial crisis in 2008. Now this tarrif thjng, which at best is a huge gamble and quite possibly a huge disaster. I guess we’ll see but America seems to be lurching between full starboard and full port, and the passengers are getting queasy. Sure other western countries are also in bad shape in many ways often worse. But the big dog it’s not doing too good these days by most measures.
In everything you do you should rely only on yourselves. Your brain power is amazing and so is your “know how”!! You should always have the independence to proceed without any help and /or blessings from anybody else including US!!!
Israel needs to invest in its own arms industry too. The next generation of US leaders may not be so favorably disposed to selling arms to Israel.
