Israel must show that it is not a vassal of the U.S. or even its fifty-first state, but a sovereign nation with an unassailable duty to defend its land and citizens.
U.S. military aid to Israel is not a gift. Almost all of it is spent in America. The ROI for the U.S., in improved military systems, combat validated effectiveness, shared intelligence and added support against common enemies, is enormous. Israel must always act against existential threats, regardless of any Oval Office unreasonable demands.
Trump treats everyone as a vassal. They have no utility unless they constantly kiss his butt. The attacks by Iran aren't aimed at the US homeland. Unfortunately, Israel is the target. Not to mention the attacks on Bahrain, UAE and Qatar. Now, if those three Arab countries, together with Saudi Arabia, formed a coalition with Israel to attack Iran, and jointly defend one another, we could have real progress. Unfortunately, wishing doesn't make it so.
Richard, If what you just wrote were true, there would be no Abraham Accords. You will find as have certain Arab leaders that having Israel as a friend and not an enemy has advantages in both trading and moral support against terrorism.
Arab leaders, but who would the soldiers be in such an army? Half of them would be undermining the effort and siding with enemy groups on the sly and half would commit gruelling war crimes. It's a clueless idea.
That's assuming that there would still be Arab soldiers in the form of terrorists. It is only through the huge sums that the export of crude oil, that these soldiers can afford to be maintained by oppressive governments.
If they were "shit leaders" it would be easy to flush them away, but they have a mentality that is very difficult to change and what we need is a lot of time and patience to help educate them away from the Muslim terrorist ideals for world dominance, which are unfortunately included in what otherwise would be a beneficial religion, resembling Judaism having One God.
Israel is a western country. The only western democracy in the entire middle east. The western world is once again being besieged by Islam. Those who choose ignorance and ignore this fact are foolish. The west has to stick together or be taken down one by one by the Islamists aggressors. The Sunni - Shia divide is just background noise in western thinking. At the end of the day the Muslims will stick together if only long enough to overcome their shared enemies.
"Don’t threaten us with cutting off your aid. It will not work. I am not a Jew with trembling knees. I am a proud Jew with 3,700 years of civilized history. Nobody came to our aid when we were dying in the gas chambers and ovens. Nobody came to our aid when we were striving to create our country. We paid for it. We fought for it. We died for it. We will stand by our principles. We will defend them. And, when necessary, we will die for them again, with or without your aid.”
—Former Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin
It's crucial for Israel to gracefully transition away from reliance on USAID and to alter its long-term relationship with the US in order to reduce the hold the US has on our essential survival and security.
Meanwhile, the Marxist anti-Semite Democrat Party retakes Congress and possibly wins in 2028 because we think Iran is an easy win, like Iraq. The USA-Israel relationship is mutually beneficial and vital to be sure.....but only if the Democrats stay out of power......that is the real (shallow admittedly) goal for now, not destroying the Republican Guard Corps. Persians are fighters....read your history and get realistic. Trump has no exit strategy beyond narcissism.
I've been keeping up with Israel-U.S. issues since I was a child - it was common dinner table conversation while I was growing up. I remember my parents always irate that the U.S. treated Israel as a vassal state, forcing it in war after war to stop fighting for its own survival (especially if it was winning) or risk U.S. wrath. I appreciate you continuing to fight the good fight to help Israel continue to exist and be a beacon of democracy and freedom in the Middle East.
With a few exceptions, all of the above is just plain noise! Diaspora Jews will never agree on anything, they are THESE and THAT first, and Jewish second. Just look at Germany from 1933 onwards!!! Brave are the Israelis who do all the fighting while the rest of us sit comfortably at home and watch and “kvetch”! Dem this, Rep that, garbage!!!!
You should turn question around. Is the US a vassal of Israel? We are both sovereign nations and have our own interests when our interests collide I would expect a sovereign nation to look after its own best interest.
Our most recent news has confirmed that Israel's leadership on big policy decisions is not governed by Trump. We continue to battle with the Hezbollah in Lebanon whilst trying through its true government to negotiate and achieve peace there. And now that the US is again fighting Iran, Israel has not opted to join in, at least until and only after Iran again sends rockets to hit us, and not the US army sites in some of the neutral Arab countries.
Israel distancing itself from the US would help American diaspora jews distance ourselves from American politics. It would also stop the legacy media, the right and left from spreading lies about the US providing 3.8 billion in aid "directly" to Israel when we all know the money is spent on weapons manufacturing jobs in the US. And we need a second Nakba. Namely stay in our ancestral land, accept Israeli sovereignty, and increase the quality of your life 10 fold, leave because you're a useful idiot or die because you still wish us ill.

Laughable. Of course it’s a gift. Even if it’s in weapons and not in money that could be freely spent anywhere.

Great idea.. but all Muslims hate Israel.. they would never overtly allign with them

Which is exactly what Israel will do.. time to END it.. blow up Kharg island put the Iranian shit leaders out of business.. no money no Iran IRGC

Hahahaha good luck with that. The 'Muslim Terrorist ideals" you speak of is islam.

In the 19th century the West took the Islamic world down - one by one. So they are just returning the complement.
It goes way beyond 18th and 19th century. Try 1400 years.
Not quite 1400 years - remember the East was dominant prior to the industrialization of the West.
No, it’s 1400 years. That’s how long Islam has been upon this Earth. That’s when it all started.
Begin to Biden:

If the US leaves the IRGC in place, all we’ve done is mow the lawn. Israel must finish them off.

Trump isn’t normal anyone who crosses him is shit… but you’re spot on Michael
Trump isn't normal is correct. It's Trump himself who suffers from TDS.

Israel must do what Israel must do. Defend its sovereignty against enemies—foreign and domestic. Trump will get over it (or not).

When has the US failed to serve its own interests when they conflict with the interests of Israel?
Never that is my point. Each nation must look after its own interest and not be surprised by lack of support from another sovereign state
The US is not serving its own interests in capitulating to Iran.
No it is serving Trump’s interest
